Understanding Dental Implants: the procedure

Welcome to the realm of dental implants, where innovation meets restoration to craft a brand-new smile. Imagine this process as a roadmap to renewed confidence, where missing teeth are replaced with a natural-looking, stable solution. In the following pages, we'll guide you through each step, demystifying the procedure from consultation to completion.

First, the dentist will conduct a thorough examination of your mouth to determine if you are a good candidate for an implant. This may involve x-rays or other imaging tests to assess the health of your jawbone and determine the best placement for the implant.

Once you have been approved for the procedure, the dentist will numb the area where the implant will be placed and make a small incision in the gum tissue. They will then drill a small hole into the jawbone and place the implant into the hole.

After the implant has been placed, you will need to wait several weeks or months for the implant to fuse with the surrounding bone tissue in a process called osseointegration. During this time, you may be given a temporary crown or bridge to wear.

Once the implant has fully integrated with your jawbone, the dentist will attach the abutment to the implant. This serves as a connector between the implant and the replacement tooth or teeth.

Finally, the dentist will take impressions of your teeth and use these to create a custom-made replacement tooth or teeth that will be attached to the abutment. With proper care, your implant should last for many years, providing a strong, stable, and natural-looking replacement for your missing teeth.
